When I tried to copy my formulas down to additional rows, I ran into no problems if I proceeded one at a time. As a result, these formulas cannot be evaluated. When I attempted to calculate the spreadsheet (by hitting F9), I still got an error message:Įxcel ran out of resources while attempting to calculate one or more formulas.

Not surprisingly, my efforts to finish populating the rows entailed a lot of waiting. To reduce the amount of waiting time, I went into File > Options > Formulas > Calculation Options > Manual > turn off Recalculate Workbook Before Saving. That did help, but it did not solve my problems. This post provides some notes on this problem.

But I was having a hard time getting beyond that point. I was able to copy the contents of row 1 down to the first 100,000 rows. After a few tries, I tried a piecemeal approach. I would tell it to copy the cells from row 1 to the remaining 580,000 rows, and it would crash. There were about 200 columns.Įxcel was not cooperating in the effort to complete this large spreadsheet.

#Excel not enough memory to delete column full
Column A had about 580,000 data items, so the finished spreadsheet would have 580,000 rows, mostly full of cells containing formulas. In this spreadsheet, column A contained data, and all remaining columns contained formulas that would make incremental changes, going across, to the contents of the cell to its left. I was attempting to finish adding formulas throughout all rows of a large spreadsheet.
